OUR VOLUNTEERS
Richard McKeown Why I Joined: During my 6 months of travelling I realised how lucky I was in Australia and decided to get involved in the non-for-profit sector when I returned. Area of Responsibility: Fundraising. Occupation Outside of Testigo: Finance Analyst at GM Holden and Monash Commerce/Aerospace Engineering undergrad student. Other Interests: Surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, fluid dynamics, anything to do with water!
Laura Aston Why I Joined: I joined as I wanted some hands on experience working for an organisation, but one which was driven by something more than just money. As a chemical engineering student, the striking element of Testigo Africa was that it was a water project, so I thought I might get some relevant work experience as well as all the other benefits of volunteering. Tracey was very genuine and the video on the website inspired me with its message of living simply yet happily as the Masai do. Area of Responsibility: Fundraising, formerly taking minutes of meetings. Occupation Outside of Testigo: Full time university student, hockey umpire and retail worker. Other Interests: Hockey, sustainability, all things French, bike-riding, travelling.
Darren Tan Why I Joined: I wanted to make a real impact and apply the knowledge I attained from university into a practical setting. I felt this was a perfect opportunity to apply my engineering skills and the idea of making a difference to improve the quality of life for a community was truly inspiring. Area of Responsibility: Marketing as well as proposing designs for the grey water system. Occupation Outside of Testigo: Student. Other Interests: Photography, martial arts, snowboarding, surfing.
Dinali Hewa-Kapuge Why I Joined: I’ve always been interested in working in the not-for-profit sector using my skills in Marketing. When I met Tracey and she explained the situation in Tanzania, the long-term nature of the project and the focus on empowerment and education of the Longido community really appealed to me. Area of Responsibility: Marketing and fundraising. Occupation Outside of Testigo: Recent Commerce and Science graduate from Monash. Other Interests: Live music and films.
Jenny Duong Why I Joined: I was eager to be part of a movement to help educate and inspire others to share their voice and make a difference, and play an active role in a grassroots organisation. Area of Responsibility: Design and Merchandising Coordinator. Occupation Outside of Testigo: Student. Other Interests: Fashion, music.
Rick Howden Why I Joined: After talking to Richard, who is a passionate Testigo volunteer, and hearing the exciting advances they have made in making a difference to the less fortunate, I wanted to try something new and be involved. Something can be done, and so far I have found the experience self rewarding and a great way to meet new people. Area of Responsibility: Project Planner - To gather and manage the progression of Testigo Africa Projects. Ensure progression toward completion of current projects before the outlook date and help identify potential risks or threats. Be involved in general fundraising for Testigo Africa. Occupation Outside of Testigo: I work for a car manufacturer in an Aftersales Transformation Project to improve current business processes and manage various areas of the project. Other Interests: I have a passion for music, and have played the drums for eight years now. I am also a sports fanatic and enjoy watching and playing a wide variety of sports.
